Gene D. Mahaney, M.D.

Dr. Mahaney completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1993 at Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y., and completed his Internal Medicine Internship at Albany Medical Center. After moving to Boston, Dr. Mahaney completed his Residency in Anesthesiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School. He completed his Fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, Va. In 1999, Dr. Mahaney came to Fort Myers and became Medical Director of the Pain Management Clinics for Lee Memorial Health System.

He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and is a member of a number of professional organizations.

Velimir A. Micovic, M.D.

Dr. Micovic received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical School of the University of Rijeka in Croatia, and completed his Internship and Residency in Emergency Medicine and Surgery at University Hospital in Rijeka. From 1989 to 1995, he was Research Associate at The Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto. He completed an Internal Medicine Internship, Residency in Anesthesiology and Pain Management Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Micovic came to Fort Myers in 2000 to practice Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Lee Memorial Health System facilities.

He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, and is a member of a number of professional organizations.

Gilberto Acosta, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Acosta received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and a Doctor of Medicine and a Master in Public Health Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. In 1992 he completed his Internship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, N.Y, and then went on to complete his Residency in Anesthesiology at New York University Medical Center.

While serving in the armed forces in South Carolina in 1995, Dr. Acosta was assigned as a Staff Anesthesiologist at Naval Hospital Charleston. He completed his Pain Management Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, then moved to Fort Myers in 2000 to practice at Lee Memorial Health System facilities.

He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, and is a member of a number of professional organizations.

Adam Shuster, D.O.
Pain Management Consultants


Dr. Shuster received his undergraduate degree in psychology in 2000 and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2004 from Michigan State University. He completed his Internal Medicine / Osteopathic Internship at Providence Hospital and Medical Center in Southfield, Mich. He completed Residency Training in Anesthesiology and later was a Staff Anesthesiologist at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. He completed a Fellowship in Pain Management there as well.

Dr. Shuster’s main focus at Florida Pain Centers is managing acute, chronic and cancer-related pain with a special interest in neuromodulation. He has co-authored several articles in professional publications, is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, and is a member of a number of professional organizations.

Michael Martinez, M.D.

Dr. Martinez specializes in anesthesiology and pain management for patients with acute, chronic and cancer pain. He is 2005 graduate of The Citadel Military College of South Carolina where he received a bachelor of science, and earned a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine in 2010.

In June 2014, he completed his internship and anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then completed a one-year Fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Medicine specializing in the multidisciplinary treatment of patients with acute, chronic and cancer pain.

Dr. Martinez holds both Florida and Alabama medical licenses, and is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Timothy D. Replogle, M.D.
Pain Management Consultants


Dr. Replogle brings with him a passion for excellence in evidence-based patient-centered outcomes, determination to educate others about their medical condition, and a strong sense of empathy and advocacy for his patients.

He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree with High Honors in Microbiology and Cell Science and a minor in Chemistry. He then earned his medical degree with honors at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. Dr. Replogle interned in a combined surgical and medicine program at UF and completed his Residency in Anesthesiology. During his final year of training, he was chief resident of the Anesthesiology Residency Program. He then completed a Fellowship in Interventional and Chronic Pain Management at Duke University School of Medicine, one of the nation’s leading medical centers.

Dr. Replogle is medically licensed in North Carolina and Florida, and Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of many professional organizations such as the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Pain Society of the Carolinas, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, and the Florida Medical Association. He has also contributed to several publications and lectures. Additionally, Dr. Replogle was involved in clinical research involving neuromodulation and novel spinal cord stimulation patterns while in fellowship.

While he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Replogle enjoys being outside on or near the water; he loves traveling with family, cruising the high seas, reading, off-road biking, and walking his dog.
